I have the privilege of participating in the course Making Sanctuary, facilitated by Bayo Akomolafe and his team. In the opening session he invited us to write in response to the question: Who and I? This poem was what expressed through these fingers in that moment.
Vulnerable isness
I am trees and rivers that seep into the pores of my skin and my nostrils.
I am chi that flows through forest bark, city gutters and the dripping clouds.
I am tears that bubble up from the springs that no longer feed the elementals.
I am peace that holds war and crime and stuckness.
I am the monster, the slayer and the sword…. and the ground that sustains them all.
I am notes and the silence between them… and fluid waste in joyful endings.
I am hope that persists from not grieving what was not possible.
I am a fleeting sliver of possibility that transcends what has not yet been thought of.
I am tender vulnerability that is falling apart: that from which anything can arise.
A web and its spider, weaving each other’s existence.
Very beautiful David, exquisite language to show the forces shaping our coexistence and “who I am”. I love the spider & web imagery
“weaving each other’s existence.”
