Goodday, ahoy, kaTIki-rikiKI

Sing and flip: a bitter-singing hen
Grasp and claw and flutter down a branch
To beak and cling, and shake beneath the leaves

Thumps and sighs betray a heavy-heart
Below its beats, are bellow-headed guts
Beneath the scars, a heavy-loaded spleen

To come and sit in willow-laden gowns
The roots and worms wrap around like hair
To care and give the message of the land

Tonight the breeze is stiller than the sky
In air, up high, yellow feathers spin
To be the wind is easy once you’re here.
